Just off the coastline of Geelong’s picturesque Corio bay, award-winning Melbourne agency creative production services and lighting designer Philip Lethlean have anchored Australia’s first floating Christmas tree. Project director Keith Courtney said, ‘in the past, Australians have tended to celebrate the festive season by adopting traditional northern hemisphere festive styles with fur trees covered in fake snow, which seemed totally inappropriate during our long hot summers.’ as a result, the studio decided to turn this custom on its head with the installation of a large scale structure embracing the beautiful harbor and anchoring the city’s other decorations.

The exterior presents a kinetic façade using 11,000 reflective disks to ensure that the synthetic plant is equally impressive glistening in the summer sunshine as it is at night for local festivities. The project is a celebration of the holidays and delivers a contemporary sensory experience that will provoke the mind and entice imagination.
