斜街公寓的奇妙改造

The intervention consisted in the demolition of the existing low buildings, and the subsequent construction of a new residential building.

The district on which the new building stands, is part of an area of ​​the city constituted mainly in the post-war period, and still in development. The pre-existing buildings are therefore of different typologies characteristic of the suburban neighborhoods; there are no typologies of particular interest to refer to.

The area where the project is located is characterized by the street that slanted the lot. The borders are bordered on one side by a residential building of three floors above ground and the other by a courtyard belonging to another building.

The main architectural choices were therefore dictated by the particular conformation of the lot, and not by the pre-existing ones.

From the first compositional approach it seemed opportune to try to rectify the obliquity determined by the way in order to reduce to the maximum the sharp or obtuse edges inside the lodgings.

The rectification of the building wire (less than 50% of the front) has become an opportunity to accentuate the inflection of the street and to make the façade more volumetric; moreover, the partial retraction generated the sharp edge which, coated with colored cement glass, acts as a reference signal for those who travel the route.

The two fronts created in this way differ in contrast to volumes, also thanks to the first recessed and then protruding balconies, but they dialogue in counterpoints linked by the rectoral axis of the lot and the materials.

The choice of materials was determined by the presence in the district of recently constructed buildings in exposed yellow bricks. Therefore, the natural yellow sand of the hydraulic lime plaster (lime from Chivasso) was chosen. The tight and full-height windows can be darkened by smooth solid wood doors painted in dark brown color; once inhabited, the prospect will take further life from the shutters that will be a little open, a bit closed in an apparent orderly disorder.

The blind front on the edge of the boundary of property, shows decorated the house number of the house as high as itself; moreover, the hypothetical shadow that would be created if the cornice protruded beyond a one and a half meter border was decorated with the cornice.
