For its fourth instalment, Casa Perfect takes over a 1970s Trousdale Estates home, designed by Raul F Garduno

Casa Perfect – the nomadic showhouse concept of The Future Perfect gallery – has an unprecedented relationship with the architecture it inhabits. Previous iterations in Los Angeles saw installations in the former home of Elvis Presley and at the David Hyun designed mid-century house in the Hollywood Hills. Similarly, for its first New York outing in 2019, Casa Perfect opened the doors of a West Village five-story townhouse designed by David Chipperfield.

For its third iteration on the west coast, Casa Perfect opens inside the Trousdale Estates home, designed by Raul F Garduno in 1971. Transforming the way we experience design, aligning with Frieze Los Angeles, and opened with an exhibition of new works from artist Matthew Day Jackson’s ‘Wonky Collection’.

Jackson’s ‘Wonky Collection’ stays true to its name. Conceived with a comedy performance in mind, he created the pieces using only basic tools without precise measurement. Playful and whimsical, Jackson’s pieces pepper the refined Hollywood home with humour.

‘I’m particularly proud of the work Matthew will debut with us,’ says David Alhadeff, founder of The Future Perfect. ‘His playful designs are impressively engineered and beautifully handworked – they will help set the stage for a bright year in our new home.’

Alongside Jackson’s collection, Casa Perfect will display new work form The Future Project’s artists including John Hogan, Chen Chen & Kai Williams and Cody Hoyt – in addition to pieces from gallery’s local mainstays, like Calico Wallpaper, Lindsey Adelman and David Weeks.

Its fourth installment is set to be The Future Perfect’s most progressive. ‘Our new home for Casa Perfect LA is my favourite house yet,’ continues Alhadeff. ‘The Casa Perfect concept for me has always been about utilising incredible architecture – in this case a jewel that has been virtually untouched since 1971.’

Casa Perfect’s residence in the Trousdale Estates continues the gallery’s mission to answer the ‘increasing irrelevance of traditional retail’ by offering an immersive experience that weaves different cultural pillars. By appointment only, the space will serve as a platform and destination for events, exhibitions, panels, partnerships, collaborations and more. §
