Every week we highlight those submissions which have been frequented by our readers and jury, in the lead up to the reveal of Interiors of the Month winners and honourable mentions. Here are the five most-viewed spaces between 18 and 25 March 2022, shared with comments left by this month's jury members.
1. FREITAG STORE SILOM BY PRONTO
Freitag Lab
Freitag's new location in Bangkok's Silom district (7.55; Single-Brand Store) is separated into a sales area and a 'Sweat-Yourself Shop', where clients have the option to customize their product themselves. The Swiss brand worked with local partner Pronto and interior architecture and retail design studio Supermachine Studio to bring the 100-sq-m store to life. Features like a gymnastics mat, fireman's pole and staircase invite free movement. 'This is the shopping experience we want to be engaged,' comments Ed Ng, cofounder and principal at AB Concept.
2. TENTIE
Moss.
Conceived by Moss., the Tokyo headquarters of Tentie (6.57; Small Office, 6.53; Material) emphasizes user wellbeing and collective synergy through biophilic design. Aesthetically and functionally, 'the design is based on the various voids created by 6intersecting lines, to which we added various elements such as places to work, meeting rooms, and lounges where people can come and go,' explains the team. Natural light, lush greenery and neutral materials imbue the 548-sq-m workspace with a relaxed feeling.
3. SHOJI APARTMENT
Proctor & Shaw Architects
'A prototype for micro-living in housing stock', Shoji Apartment is a 29-sq-m residence in London (6.87; Small Apartment). Seeking an open-plan space 'filled with light and warmth', the client tapped Proctor & Shaw Architects to oversee the apartment's renovation. Now, the multifunctional domestic environment centres around a raised translucent sleeping pod inspired by Japanese shoji screens. The elevated pod allows for extra living space, which is characterized by a minimalistic, fresh scheme.
4. WAW FLOORS PARIS
Bjorn Verlinde
Based in a suburb of Paris, WaW Floors joined forces with designer Bjorn Verlinde to design its new 300-sq-m office (6.43; Small Office). Comprising eight offices connected to the entrance by a bar, the workspace champions materiality considering the nature of the brand. The collaborators partnered with Belgian label Unilin to clad the interior in sleek grey-coated MDF. 'Grey panels, reflective walls, white floors and a huge cupboard to preserve [WaW'S] materials are the big elements in this showroom,' says Verlinde.
5. POP GOLF
Zachary Pulman Design Studio
Zachary Pulman Design Studio's Pop Golf project (6.53; Entertainment Venue, 6.17; Colour) uses bling, bright lights and social media to attract a young crowd. The mini-golf course includes a glowing 'infinity box' inspired by Drake's 'Hotline Bling' music video, which referenced the works of artist James Turrell. Marking the start of a new franchise, the 231-sq-m Wembley location is built to be shared on social media, with bright colour blocking providing the kind of eye candy TikTok backdrops are made of.
