CYTA is located in the heart of Hipódromo Condesa, one of Mexico City’s most vibrant and shifting neighborhoods. The CYTA building and apartments are designed to provide an intimate haven in the middle of all that dynamism and energy. The façade is formed by balconies and terraces with a great abundance of plants–in pots that are integrated to the structure, an Irving wrought iron screen, and restrained framings. The façade coexists with its surroundings and with the trees gracing the street and the vegetation of the city intertwines with that sprouting from the building, creating a harmonious experience with the outside, both for the user and for the building. This way the building gently integrates into its urban surroundings. One of the neighboring buildings was classified a heritage site; hence, we adapted the building’s volume to achieve a striking gesture of integration. Considering that the side façade will never be obstructed, we saw the opportunity of integrating the front façade to it and also of interweaving both façades on the upper levels, as if it was a seam. The building has 25 units, all of which receive natural ventilation and light. Most of them occupy one full story and include balconies and there are some distributed in two stories. The units on ground level have small vegetable patios. In the top of CYTA, there is a common roof garden with barbecue grills, lounge chairs, and a bar. The space is ideal for spending time with friends and family, or simply for relaxing without leaving the house; the spacious exterior provides a panoramic view of its excellent location. The finishes and building materials are basic, pure, and honest; they seek to give the project an everlasting aspect that withstands the test of time. CYTA embeds into the city offering an urban lifestyle and a coherent design environment–from the small details to the building’s total design concept, resulting in a project with added value for its users and the city.
