Adytum Library, a Library project in Canberra, Australia, was designed by local interior design firm Pattern. A thick wedge-shaped island made of plaster and beeswax is fixed to the sparsely populated interior of this temporary library, shop and exhibition space. Located in the trendy suburb of Bradton, the temporary library is part of Adytum, a new Australian health brand that makes ecologically-conscious self-care products such as tea, face oil and body wash.
Although the brand will open its first spa in 2021, it wants to design a slightly different style of healthy space, with the theme of books and "intellectual nourishment from the written word". Pattern Studios in Sydney is also developing the interior of the Nedon Spa and was asked to design the library. The brand's key requirement is that pop-up stores have minimal impact on the environment. With this in mind, Pattern abandoned the idea of transforming the entire retail unit and instead created only one striking element -- a large wedge island at the centre of the floor plan, built around the existing two structural columns.
