For the new home of a creative young family with two kids,Marmol Radziner created a maximalist, colorful, and layered interior design featuring classic and modern furnishings that suit contemporary island life. Traditional materials such as wood and lava rock ground the architecture in this home’s distinct location.

Facing views of the Haleakalā Volcano summit to the southeast and the ocean to the west, the home is situated on a flat area of land on the northeast part of the property. The main structure touches the ground lightly, floating above a plane defined by its wrap-around deck, but is anchored at one corner by a vertical tower. The design also underscores the fluidity of indoor-outdoor living in Maui’s tropical environment.
