“飞行甲板”学生餐厅酒吧经过重新设计，为学生提供更多餐饮选择。这是餐厅自1996年开业以来的第一次改建，EDSA协助大学提高了现场1/5英亩室外区域的利用率。酒吧包含室内外酒吧、17寸宽屏电视、6个分别能容纳8至10人的室外凉亭、长毛绒休闲家具、1块多功能空间、1座宁静广场和由研究生学生会捐助的精神岩石雕像。此外，还增加了新的遮蔽区域，为学生提供更多学习、游乐、游戏、活动和庆典空间。通过增加凉亭和其他成熟的休闲设计要素，团队有机会将部分用于度假村和休闲开发项目的设施引入校园，以提升大学设计的标准。EDSA参与设计的各个阶段，包括概念设计、施工图设计和施工现场配合。

The “Flight Deck” Student Restaurant and Bar was re-designed to offer more dining opportunities to students. Providing the first improvements since the facility first opened its doors in 1996, EDSA assisted the university in increasing the utilization of the 1/5-acre outdoor area of the site. The facility is fully equipped with indoor and outdoor bars, 17 wide-screen televisions, six outdoor cabanas that seat eight to 10 people each, plush lounge furniture, a multipurpose space, a tranquil plaza, and Spirit Rock thatwas donated by the Undergraduate Student Government Association. New shaded areas were also added to offer students more areas for study, play, games, activities, and events.Through the addition of cabanas and other sophisticated recreational design elements, the team took this assignment as an opportunity to introduce some of the luxury provided in resort and leisure developments to on campus facilities, raising the bar on university design. EDSA was involved in all phases of design from conceptual design through construction documents and administration.

飞行甲板学生酒吧最初于1996年开业，之后于2006年搬至目前的位置，即诺瓦东南大学（NSU）的Don Taft大学中心。学生酒吧位于园区的核心位置，可俯瞰一块可举办大型活动的大草坪。不过，酒吧及其室外空间的利用率不足，在过去实际上并没有成为学生的集合地点。但是，泛学生会（Pan SGA）决定在NSU大学营造活力园区，认识到了中心的潜力，将飞行甲板酒吧的翻新作为第一个项目。2011年，泛学生会通过投票，为其项目筹集资金，成立“设施改善基金”，推动飞行甲板酒吧升级翻新。之后，泛学生会参与了项目翻新每个阶段的工作，包括协助选择室外家具，如石材座椅、餐单样式和标志设计等。

Originally established in 1996, the Flight Deck Pubmoved to its current home, the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Don Taft University Center, in 2006. Located at the heart of the campus, the Pub overlooked a large lawn which was meant to host outdoor events. However, the Pub and its outside spaces were underutilized and never materialized into a hub for student gatherings.But its potential was recognized when the Pan Student Government Association (Pan SGA), deciding to create more opportunitiesfor a vibrant campus life at NSU, identified the Flight Deck Pub renovation as their first project. In 2011 the Pan SGA voted to raise funds for their projects and created a ‘facilities improvement fund,’ allowing Flight Deck Pub upgrades to move forward. Subsequently, the Pan SGA has been involved in every phase of the project renovation, including helping to select outdoor furnishings, such as the outside rocking chairs, menu items, and logo design.

The scope of the Flight Deck Pub project involved both indoor and outdoor components. The indoor renovation, executed by an architecture firm, included a refurbished bar, lounge and multipurpose area, state-of-the-art kitchen, and installation of several media centers. Likewise, the 5-acre, underutilized outdoor spaces, also received a makeover. The existing outdoor area consisted of a terrace, bordered by a seat wall with polelights.  A visual axis connected the terrace and building entrance to a lawn and a circular plaza overlooking thewater. The lawn was delineated to the north by a campus promenade.The program for theoutdoor facilities meant to ensure that the space was usable year-round and atall times of the day. This included an outdoor bar with TV, a dining plaza area, a central lawn for events, hammocks, and study cabanas, adequate lighting for night time use, asound system, as well as the possibility for temporary movie night screenings. The Undergraduate Student Government Association also selected a large “SpiritRock” for the area, which will be installed at a later date. After gathering the students’ ideas, the landscape architects’ design concept included creating a contemporary design for the outdoor areas, responding both to the architecture of the building and to the interior Flight Deck Pub renovations. The goal was to provide an inviting and relaxed tropical feel - making everyone feel welcome and providing a comfortable outdoor experience.

The new concept developed by the landscape architects maintained the axial relationship between the Flight Deck Pub entrance and the waterfront plaza, and proposed a symmetrical lawn along thisaxis, bordered by sidewalks and three study cabanas on each side, seating 8 to 10 students each. The existing terrace next to the building was maintained, but a new outdoor bar and large rocking chairs were added. To the south of this active area, a quieter dining plaza with small palms and a wall fountain were placed in relationship with the multipurpose area of the indoor pub. A planting buffer softened the transition between the hardscape areas and the building walls. Hammocks were proposed to the north side of the cabanas, in a grove oftrees and palms. This area is also the selected location for the future “Spirit Rock”. Next to the waterfront plaza, a few steps were added close to the water.Another key design component was providing shade, essential for a successful outdoor living experience in Florida. Previously, inspite of the NSU’s leadership’s desire to encourage more outdoor activities,the students seemed to congregate indoors. The intent of the project outdoor improvements was to create outdoor gathering areas for events, study, and recreation to be used year round. Shade was provided by the building architecture itself, with awnings and a shade trellis around the bar.Additional relief was provided with the aid of large oak plantings, rollingchair designs, and fabric canopies and ceiling fans in each cabana and at the bar.

The landscape architects closely worked with NSU leadership in establishing and refining the concept for the outdoor spaces, andincorporated all of the Pan SGA requirements in their plan. Early dialoguedetermined the initial area allocated for outdoor dining was too small, whichin turn led to the reconfiguration of an adjacent service area to allow for anincrease in the student spaces. In addition, the relationship between theindoor and outdoor finishes was coordinated with the architects, using asimilar color palette and matching materials.A visit to the campus at any hour of the day demonstrates the success of the project. Students can be seen congregating and eating in the dining area or around the bar, with most cabanas fully occupied. The Student Government’s vision of a vibrant campus community has come to fruition,and the Flight Deck Pub is a key feature in the campus tour for prospective students, immediately offering a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
