This was a project to design art lighting to inspire and compliment the TEDx Austin 2013 conference held at the Circuit of the America's new 100 million dollar Formula 1 racetrack in Austin. To design the piece we considered the shape of the track itself, its long sloping curves, which also mirrored the observation tower (designed by Miro Rivera Architects), as well.
The final piece was made of water-jet cut aluminum, nearly 10 feet long by 12" x 3/8" thick with layers of dichroic film and wireless, color changing LEDs on the upper deck. Its flowing curved appearance is at once like the profile of an F1 car and a section of the racetrack itself.
