Wayla is a new, Thai restaurant concept. Set to live under Little Wayla - it’s colorful fast casual counter and take-out arm - and Kodawari - a modern Japanese coffee shop - the three venue project are all designed by CRÈME / Jun Aizaki Architecture & Design.
CRÈME’s design for Wayla was inspired by traditional Thai street markets. The 40-seat, underground restaurant offers a cozy, moody and intimate setting, reminiscent of a speakeasy. Upon entering down a set of steps from the ground level, you are greeted by lanterns. Exposed stone, foundation and stucco walls give the space a raw, industrial feel, while geometric metal screens separate the upholstered banquettes to create intimate spaces for guests.
To offset the cavernous feel of the space, the bar is lined with cool teal ceramic tiles. The ceiling is painted with a champagne colored metallic paint, reflecting beautiful shadows from the dimly lit pendants. Slatted wood panels line one of the walls, allowing for the teal colored tiles to peek through. The bathrooms are painted with white and black geometric shapes and metallic champagne paint, tied together by the same teal tile, creating unity within the entire space.
