United Therapeutics Corporation is a biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative products to address the unmet medical needs of patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions. The goal for their new headquarters was to create a building that embraces technology while simultaneously respecting and embracing nature. Achieving that balance was a key challenge for EwingCole. The LEED Gold, 100,000 sf building features an atrium that incorporates water features symbolic of the historic Silver Spring, as well as a living wall that while decorative also helps filter the air. The pedestrian connector to the adjacent building, while high tech in appearance, integrates that fundamental human element, the DNA strand. Each floor level is identified by a unique color scheme and name – Activity, Serenity, Education, Research, Communication and Leadership.
