Project Year:2017
Category:Apartments
Amsterdam based architecture firm Prast & Hooft have designed HUT apartments in three former police stations in Amsterdam’s historic centre. The interior was stripped of all clutter until nothing but the original structure was left. New fully furnished apartments are now available for locals and expats for short and long stay.
The Beursstraat building has a concrete structure, which has been exploited by the architects by leaving this structure visible and adding rough stucco on the newly placed walls to add to this raw character. This brutal base is combined with wooden cabinet walls and soft pastel colors in the floor and curtains.
The apartments are designed as innovative ‘plug-and-play’ homes, where inhabitants use the HUT app to manage heating, switch on and dim lights. It even enables the residents to order a cleaning and laundry service or get breakfast delivered from closeby bakeries.
HUTs are available in different sizes, ranging from cute HUT studios, where a cabinet wall seperates the living from the bedroom to HUTs with multiple bedrooms, that all come with ensuite bathrooms.
The compact apartments make use of every bit of space. The kitchen counter top continues over a low part that allows for seating and extra storage space. Further, window sills can be used for seating or placing plants and art. The wood clad walls hide cabinets, a toilet and storage space.
