The hotel is hidden in an ancient Peaking alley（hutong）, the colored pattern painted on its timberwork was painted from the royal painter of the Forbidden City. Painting is the biggest feature of this hotel, and it runs through the project. The lighting design tries to show the purity of old Peaking’s characteristic as well as the painting.

‘Screen Wall’ is an important architectural symbol of the traditional Peaking courtyard. The brick carving on the screen wall shows the status and wealth of the owner. In order to increase the mystery of space, we chose the up light to show the screen wall as well as the brick carving. The lights faded from the bottom to the up, then it could leave a dark space for the painting behind it.

After the process of design and renovation, a glass hood with modern metal steel frame was added to the forecourt, thus a light-transparent indoor space could be created.

This is the authentic old Peking courtyard. The four wing rooms in the four directions（east, west, south and north）now serve as guest rooms to receive the most distinguished guests. Of course, there is colored pattern on the timberwork of the inner courtyard.

The furniture inside the room is mostly antique furniture with Chinese style, thus in order to show the true color of wood, a high quality of light is required in this space.

The arrangement of the guest rooms’ luminaires also follow the style of old Peaking. Traditional pedant lamps provide the necessary lighting for the space. In some key locations, accent lighting is also designed to increase the illumination for the focus of the space, such as artworks.

The ceiling in the restaurant has a timberwork with Chinese style. Linear light is applied to show the ceiling structure. Floor lamps are applied to supplement the illumination for the rest part.
