Place, where you enter to see the heritage of this beautiful island. Waahalkada located in ambepussa. Along the infamous and very busy colombo-kandy road.

In the past, the hamlet of ambepussa served as a border area, separating the kandyan kingdom from its western counter parts and thus the surroundings of ambepussa often witnessed endless cues and long waits as merchants, the general public and other travelers were screened and checked, prior to entering the upcountry.

Today taking the past in to its spirit. A rest pavillion for travelers. Unique piece of art, a educational centre, about our heritage, history, culture, and tradition. In another way it’s a master piece of architecture, also in eco tourism.

In designing this shelter, more consideration given to save energy, use of natural daylight, ventilation and re-use the waste water. Also produce bio-gas use in the kitchen. This small unit remind us again about the red indian ciatel history.value of the nature, the way how we could protect the environment. How our grand fathers protected and donated this green world to us. In designing interior part, it remind us about our tradition and how colonial culture enterd to this isdland.

The café’ shows us how coffee became familiar to sri lankans. When its come to the prisoner’s court yard, that overlooks a splendid river as it snakes waypast. The court yard consist of spacious seating upon used railway sleepers located right along side a picturesque stream that brings out a spirit of village and rurality.
