Architect:Nidus Studio
Location:Düsseldorf, Germany; | ;
Project Year:2019
Category:Apartments
Since with this particular project, we were both, real estate developer as well as architect the task was first and foremost to create the right concept for the existing building and the location. So, we had to establish the construction task ourselves. Ultimately, we decided we wanted to create a one family home that blends into the picturesque surrounding while establishing a clean contemporary feel on the inside.
Due to numerous interventions the original elements could no longer be found. Also, the floor plans were very angled after several renovations and the back facade was devoid of any structure. So, we had to start from scratch but at the same time work with the existing structure of the building and preserve the front facade. Also, the building is located in a historic part of the city with high building density and narrow one-way streets. Therefore, site equipment and keeping up neighbourhood relationships played a big role too.
We opted for mostly natural materials and colours for they could best bridge the historic exterior of the building and the puristic style on the inside. The interior is vastly dominated by up to 8m long oak floorboards and bespoke carpenter works with a pure colour palette in white and clay painted walls in the bathrooms. Minimal cement tiles in the foyer reflect on the material used in the original construction year in 1880.
