The aim of the design was to make the client's profession and passion - to operate with a wide variety of metals worldwide - haptically detectable in the HOV18 penthouse. It is about the perception of different materials of the surfaces that give the object its personal touch.
Extended over three levels, the penthouse opens completely away from the street, above the roofs of Vienna, while at the same time closing itself off from the public space to create privacy. The implementation was carried out by an automatically movable all glass floor-to-ceiling system that can be moved into each other several times and thus expose the entire living space and expand it outwards, which is even noticeable in the bathroom. The borders between inside and outside are no longer perceptible.
The concept of using metal was also transferred to the kitchen, which is around one hundred square meters in size and was built into five different metal blocks, made of completely brushed stainless steel, which indicates its industrial character. In contrast, the kitchen floor is covered with a striking marble stone, as are the bathrooms, while the rest of the living room stands out with dark wooden floors.
An infinity pool on top made of stainless steel and glass marks the highlight in the attic with a breathtaking view over Vienna. The roof terrace is closed from the public street space and surrounded by lush vegetation and garden landscape. A place of retreat and lingering in absolute tranquility is created in the middle of the city bustle. The extension of the open living space into the garden results in a symbiosis of raw and versatile materials such as steel and concrete in harmony with the seasonally changing nature.
