As in other metropolitan cities, the demand for living space in Stuttgart is huge. Nevertheless, open, unsealed surfaces in the metropolitan area can no longer be built on: The proportion of green spaces is to be protected and the climate in the famous "Kessel” is to remain liveable. Infill development is the magic term policy relies on and for which it presents good ecological grounds. "Inner development" in urban areas is a challenging task that the firm Linhart Gall Architekten Ingenieure has implemented in an exemplary manner with the planning of Das Rosenberg residential quarter on the former AOK site in popular West Stuttgart.

Nature meets zeitgeist - this short formula fits the new residential quarter, whose future inhabitants can look forward to an extremely beneficial feel-good environment: An excellent hillside location with short commutes and good public transport access; a quiet, spacious living environment that offers urban, contemporary infrastructure. Three of Stuttgart’s most popular recreation areas, Kräherwald, Karlshöhe and Hasenberg, are practically around the corner.

And in the spirit of nature, the planners have chosen sustainable building methods - for example a durable, maintenance-free and energy efficient facade construction using clinker brick slips from Ströher with StoTherm ETICS from Sto. Another approach by the planners forms quite a striking artistic element of the design: The nine residential blocks are clad in clinker brick slips in different colours using different surfaces and formats, for which the clinker specialist Ströher created various special colours according to the architects’ wishes.

Clinker brick slips structure surfaces through the resulting joint grid on the building; in the case of the facades of the Rosenberg buildings, the partially three-dimensional pattern of lines further emphasises and subdivides individual areas of the facade. This creates a beneficial effect in conjunction with the different balcony, loggia and terrace designs that are integrated into the shell of the building: Each individual Rosenberg building is visibly different from all the others - and at the same time, the overall ensemble forms an optical unit.

In the infill development area, a total of nine residential blocks are being built along Breitscheidstrasse und Falkertstrasse, creating a total of 8,000 square metres of living space. At the Rosenberg site, the second phase of which was completed in 2019, 186 homes are now available to buyers and tenants ranging from 44m2 single apartments to 270m2 penthouse apartments that offer a high standard of living and are in line with the zeitgeist.
