STATUS: Built
YEAR: 2013
SIZE: 100,000 sqft - 300,000 sqft
The new office of adidas Japan opened in May 2013 in Ark hills Sengokuyama Mori Tower in Tokyo. The project spans six floors and accommodates approximately 650 staff, a year-round operating showroom, a café and rooftop terrace
space at the 47F. Garde was responsible for the interior design, MEP schematic design, construction administration, and FF&E coordination, and began planning with the client in early 2012. The client requested a design that would drive an emotional connection with the consumers, energizing the staff. The main feature of the reception area is a mosaic image wall composed of14,000 screw-in cleats that are custom painted in a range of black, grey and white. The image is of Adi Dassler holding up a prototype of the first exchangeable cleat shoe which helped the West German’s win the world cup in 1954. The conference wing consists of formal rooms that are grouped around a semi-open area that serves as a breakout space either during or in between meetings. Images of the client’s famous athletes are used to identify each room and educate the visitors of the sports legacy and global reach of their brand. At the center of each floor there is a Communication Hub made of open lounge seating, presentation rooms, pantry and main product storage. The rooftop café is a concrete and weathered wood space designed to contrast against the glass and steel nature of modern skyscraper. Shower facilities are also providedfor yoga and crossfit sessions that occur at the open terrace.
