Casa Labradores is an architectural intervention in a residential condominium, located on the hillside in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The landscape is arid and feels like a desert, while its weather is clearly separated into two periods of approximately six months each. Winter and spring are defined by mild comfortable temperatures while Summer and Autumn are defined by large amounts of rain.
This is why the architectural intervention consisted of preserving, recomposing and reconstructing the walls upon which a restored vault was built. A light color palette was used to accentuate and increase the natural illumination and create a feeling of spaciousness inside the home, while deflecting most of the heat.
The interior walls of the home where reconfigured to add a large and flexible modern kitchen that can be opened or closed by a sliding wood partition. Two additional bedrooms were added to bring the total to three, each with an independent access to the exterior terrace. A roof terrace covered with a wood pergola was also added on the second floor.
The materials palette was chosen to resemble and exalt the natural beauty of the arid exterior landscape, ensuring the house feels like part of the landscape and as it had always been there.
