On a former campsite is the plan area ' The Nieuwkoopse Eilanden ' realized. The new building plots are spread over a number of headlands between the Nieuwkoopse Plassen and Zuideinderplas. The plot on which this house is designed is one of the first to be built in the plan area. The house has the advantage that it provides a wide view over the water in two directions with an optimal sun exposure.
The location properties of this beautiful place are fully utilized in the design of the house. The preconditions in the urban development plan and the established building area of the plot are also based on this and define a main volume oriented on the sun and views on the surrounding. An annex on the north of the plot defines a boundary with the neighbors.
In the main volume you can find a home-office, a play- and living room, dining area and the veranda near the water. The ground floor contains an open floorplan with multiple views over the entire length of the house.
In the annex there are workspaces for a veterinary practice, the utility room and the kitchen adjacent to the garden. The staircase cuts the long main volume in half and connects the ground floor with the four bedrooms upstairs. These are all oriented on the south. On each end of the corridor are facilities such as bathrooms, storage spaces and installations.
The open appearance of the façade on one side and the closed on the other side is emphasized by the roof surface that is folded over the annex and main volume as a steel blanket. The two volumes melt together. The other sides consist of a long, gray-brown mixed brickwork. The perforations of windows reveal the beautiful surrounding nature that can be experienced from the inside.
