Category:Private Houses
The house springs from the need to conciliate two purposes: the brief and the context. According to the first one, it should be unmatched, organized with a minimum of levels, integrate a garage for comfortable use for three cars, a swimming pool and a painter’s studios. According to the second one (a lotting which regulation imposes the “modernity” of flat roofs and light colours), it should be part of a hygienic city, with a late rational design of compact, earthless, vegetationless, “block” houses, without shadows or contrast.
Its corner location results as liberating for the form as restrictive in the need of privacy. Thus, out of the imposed solid, courtyards and niches are cut-out in different levels, breaking it into multiple exterior surfaces, which reflect the interior organization in half-storeys.
Breaking the volume in two creates two “houses” above the common area in the single ground floor. The house unfolds into two according to the number of users: the “house” for the owner couple, organized in split levels, further away from the street and the “house” for the wider family, with two extra guest bedrooms above the kitchen and breakfast room, with its own access stair. One “house” can be seen from the other. After all, what does one want a house for if it isn’t for designing his own city?
The interior lives from the complicity with this exterior. This later is artificially designed so that it creates a varied landscape of differently textured form, light and shadow, with the contribution of a dense vegetation wrapping the house. In detail, the option goes for a restrained use of materials and colours without any difference between inside and outside in order to underline the continuity between both.
