The Village House is situated in Villarlod, a picturesque Swiss village. Most of the surrounding constructions are barns and farmhouses, specimens of the local built heritage.

The house translates existing constructive and typological logics into a contemporary building. One large wooden framework constitutes the roof and the facades, covered, much like a shell with small, traditional tiles. Echoing typical farm configurations, only the south-west facade is covered with wood. Being well oriented and protected by a canopy, it is less exposed to the wind and the rain.

The archetypal house shape allows for various spatial conditions, in a sequence of sections that connect the living areas into one continuous open space.

The Village House embodies a timeless character by its qualities of contextualisation.

It is, as if it has always been there.
