未来城市之软硬结合公共空间

With 40 years of the reform and opening-up, China urbanization has stepped into a new stage focusing on content and quality. It becomes a common goal among urbanists, that looking for an approach to develop “city for the future” to create an ideal living environment.

Our forum is determined to face opportunities and challenges, based on analyzing fundamental characteristics and developing elements of future cities, to promote cooperation and communication in related fields, to guide urbanization research and practice into another level.

‘Conversation with City in the Future’ Forum

- Softness and Intergration of Urban Public Space

Background

Nowadays, problems and issues become noticeable because of fast urbanization process. Identical designs appeared in different cities. Even though there are increasing quantity of infrastructures and public space, people are still lacking connection with them, due to poor accessibility, involvement and diversity. Urban public space needs a better approach to present its public character and improve its characteristic, humanization and diversity. 

Therefore, we, as those who use and contribute to the public space, must take deep into these questions, such as, how to improve value of public space, how to connect public space in different scales and levels, how to balance urbanized and natural environment, as well as preserving history and culture, and how to create public space with strong involvement and spirit while telling the story of the site.

For the reasons above, we are going to focus on development approaches to soften and integrate urban public spaces, to discuss how to coordinate and consolidate urban infrastructure and green space into‘landscape infrastructure’ or even‘body facility’ of stronger landscape, connection and involvement, in order to practically represent the public character of urban public spaces.
