Seattle (Yungu Apartment) wins REARD Global Design Award
Award
Hangzhou, Zhejiang
Seattle (Yungu Apartment) wins the Residential Category at the 5th Reard Global Design Awards in Shanghai.
Our landscape designers were committed to the creation of a truly integrated landscape that would unite diverse aspects of recreation with educational, physical and emotional benefits. The “Vitality Ring” concept links all activities to create an ecosystem of opportunity catering to all ages, young and old.
The design of the Nature Exploration Garden allows for an easily accessible connection with nature in an urban environment. It is an important part of the design thinking process to create better public spaces in the context of increasing urbanisation.
“The project no longer revolves only around play equipment, but further contributes to children’s education, especially their perception of nature, creating apositive influence on the way the natural environment is treated,”
Sue Wang | Lead Designer for the community, Place Design Group Design Director

Waterfront Brisbane development plan approved by Council
Project
Brisbane, QLD
Brisbane City Council has approved the development plans for Waterfront Brisbane. It has been almost 40 years since the Riverside centre first embraced the Brisbane River as its front door, approval of Waterfront Brisbane will again be the catalyst for transformation of our great city and takes Brisbane one big step closer to delivering the City Reach vision.
The 280m long new Riverwalk represents 1/5 of Brisbane’s City Reach Masterplan connecting Howard Smith Wharves to the Botanic Gardens and the new Kangaroo Point bridge. Instrumental in leading the planning and design process had been Place Design Group Managing Director, Shaun Munday.
“This is truly a world class Brisbane inspired design of subtropical and shaded spaces, open, inviting and dynamic public spaces connecting our city streets to the river. In such a tumultuous year, to be part of the Dexus team to bring the energy back to reinvigorate Brisbane’s golden triangle is tremendously satisfying”.

A Look Back at Surfers Paradise Foreshore
Project
Sunshine Coast, QLD
"Surfers is a cultural home for the Gold Coast. It's a tourist capital....we wanted to make sure we came up with a design that was current, that was contemporary and that was relevant the day that it was delivered."
Journey behind-the-scenes with Place Design Group’s Executive Design Director, Andrew Comer, as he reflects on the design for one of the Gold Coast’s most popular tourist destinations, the Surfers Paradise Foreshore.
Andrew Comer | Place Design Group Executive Design Director
Andrew has more than 30 years design experience, and demonstrates his passion for the ‘bits beyond the buildings’, drawing inspiration from his international experience, nature and the world in which we live. Andrew has been fortunate to work in numerous countries on a range of projects. From new town developments to small lot housing and courtyard design, large scale urban schemes, high end resorts, theme parks, civic space and beyond. Regardless of the project, all share a common thread – the desire to see the best design outcome. Andrew believes the integration of our works with the natural systems is a shared responsibility that is a given, as good design transcends the fashion of the moment. Design challenges are what make Andrew tick; finding the answer that works for the client and ultimately the end user. It is the satisfaction that comes from this that drags Andrew from the beach – most days.

Keeping local centres thriving
Award
Paddington, Brisbane, QLD
The Planning Institute of Australia Awards for Planning Excellence Queensland were held last month, announcing Place Design Group as the winner for Best Planning Ideas – Small Project for the Latrobe and Given Terraces Place Strategy and Activation Tool Kit.
Place Design Group was engaged by Brisbane Economic Development Agency to partner in an initiative which aimed to drive collaboration and economic sustainability in Brisbane precincts. Focused on the pilot precinct of Latrobe and Given Terrace in Paddington, the ongoing project encompasses the development of a clearly articulated vision and key strategic direction for the precinct, jointly owned by stakeholders and documented in a ‘Precinct Plan’.
It was the first of its kind for Brisbane’s struggling local centres. “Keeping our local centres thriving, vibrant and economically sustainable is one of the most important challenges facing the planning industry at present. They are the hearts and hubs of local life, and the planning industry is being forced to find new ways to advance our thinking and approach to planning in these critical, local settings,” says Place Design Group CEO, Beth Toon.
