Pixel Cabinet | 复古与科技的完美融合

Studio Boheme have released their first originally designed furniture, piece The Pixel. Designed by Carlos Mancin, founder of the multidisciplinary collective, the piece reimagines the classic mid-century buffet.

“I was inspired by a furniture piece of my Italian great-grandmother in her home back in Venezuela. As a kid, I remember going every Sunday for lunch to her house and seeing this key piece (“a buffet”) in the dining room with all its details and engravings and I was always curious to see what was on the inside,” Carlos explains. “As most Italian families, we spent most of our time in the dining room sharing good food and incredible conversation for hours. This piece was the centre of attention.”

Inside, the buffet is covered in 6 x 6 mm tiles made entirely of recycled glass from disused PC monitors and TVs. Taking its name from this detail, the colour tiles resemble the look of ‘pixels’ when zooming in to see the walnut burl wood exterior.

“I wanted to give it a twist, a factor of surprise the moment you opened it, same as I felt every time I explored the buffet back then,” Carlos continues. “That’s when I thought it would be great to add a layer of texture by incorporating tiles in all the interiors”.

This piece came to life with the collaboration of Irene Acosta as the Head of Design, Jose Ramirez as Creative Director and visualisation studio AGAV. The Pixel is handcrafted in Los Angeles, California and made to order. For more information click here.
