‘the ko eye’ online gallery features two main collections

Studio KO has just revealed the launch of ‘The KO Eye’ (L’oeil de KO in french), its online gallery dedicated to handmade pieces, all unique or in a small edition. Each selected object or artwork tells the story of an encounter, a coup de cœur, and reflects the practice’s unique eye for design and crafts. At first glance, the selected handmade pieces allude to pre-historic artefacts, boasting rough textures and organic shapes made of ‘foundational’ materials like wood, stone and ceramics.

The site is divided into two sections, allowing visitors to browse by need and theme. On one hand, ‘The Gallery’ combines decorative and pieces for the home, namely vases, lamps, candles, and paintings, while ‘The Last Supper’ is a collection of kitchenware (cups, plates, cutlery, and so on). ‘The KO Eye’ will also propose an exclusive selection of tableware and objects co-designed with craftsmen. The first collaboration will be revealed this Spring.

Reflecting on the launch of ‘The KO Eye’ online gallery, founders Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty write: ‘Objects: they have a life of their own of course. It is entirely their own, we cannot take it away from them, at most we can choose to be part of it for a while. Like them, they will be part of ours for a while – or maybe yours. These collections – of hundreds of objects – that our professional work has led us to, all have at least one thing in common. We liked them, we like them, we will continue to like them. They speak to us. But with time – and perhaps a special form of maturity – there came the desire to share them, to make them travel in the world.’

‘Another thing they have in common? That most often they are the result of manual work. The result of a unique and precious continuum that goes from thought, abstract design, to physical realization. They are the fruit of this harmonious movement, sometimes laborious, which all creation requires. They are therefore fragile, like us, and this is undoubtedly where their ethical value lies,’ concludes the duo.
