日本横滨'room206'公寓 | 木质岛屿卧室成为空间核心-0
‘room206’ plans a Japanese-style island bedroom in yokohama
Designer Daiki Awaya takes over the renovation project of an apartment in Yokohama, Japan, intended for two couples. ‘Room206’ presents a characteristic bay window on the east side, originally parted in the center by a wall. Removing the partition secures the optimization of space and distribution of brightness throughout. The private rooms, formerly more in number, are modified to two covering space evenly and allowing the layout to assemble flow between the functions, while, also, achieving sufficient air and light circulation throughout. The bright and airy indoor environment is topped by an island-shaped formation made of wood placing a room and bedroom in the center of the house. The volume shapes a side corridor and a straight path leading from the entrance to the living room. The island bedroom can open toward the common areas or retain its privacy by closing the applied curtains evoking different spatial expressions.

The space can be connected to the living, dining, and kitchen area in the morning and afternoon, and later turned into a private room and sleeping zone at night, by opening and closing the curtains. The corners of the island and the alcove recess in the wall are rounded accentuating the unit’s shape and generating a soft texture. The renovated kitchen and workspace are arranged along the re-edited large window benefitting from the natural light. The kitchen covers a spacious plan making the most of its length and depth, while the workspace resides hidden behind the island for a more intimate zone. Custom-made wooden fixtures and furniture by designer Daiki Awaya regulate comfortable living in the restored flat.
