“We’ve done a lot of work to the outdoor space … [we] created enough space to sit 12 people. In summer, we often get to full capacity, said Olga Turner during our recent trip to her house near Guildford for our ‘My Modern House series. Feeling inspired, and with an extra hour of daylight to make use of, weve assembled six London homes with outdoor space for entertaining.

Located just off Brick Lane in the heart of Shoreditch, this celebrated contemporary house has double-height living spaces arranged over six floors. Utilising its entire footprint, the house is topped by a south-facing terrace with spectacular views of the City skyline. When you cant build out, build up. 

Live out your Brooklyn rooftop party fantasies at this two-bedroom penthouse apartment in Maurer Court, which forms part of the Millennium Village development on the Greenwich Peninsula. The 600 sq ft south-facing roof terrace is replete with large planters, while the balconies at the front of the apartment provide views of the river in the direction of the Thames Barrier.

A rear extension to this four-bedroom semi-detached house in Kentish Town has stone tiles that run seamlessly to the rear garden through vast glazed doors. The south-facing garden is divided into a patio and lawns, separated by a water feature. Larger bashes can make use of the first-floor roof terrace.

The Modernist principles of merging indoor and outdoor space have been deftly applied to this Victorian conversion, designed by Staffan Tollgard. Enormous floor-to-ceiling glazed sliding doors open onto a porcelain tile patio, giving way to lawn further back. The garden, designed by Cameron Gardens, and Harper and Tom of Ladbroke Grove, has swanky soirée written all over it.

Resembling something like a grand Italian palazzo, this large home on Christchurch Hill in Hampstead has a garden comprised of three terraces, an intricate spiral staircase and mature plants. Long summer lunches are the order of the day.
