Le seul hôtel IKEA du monde a été construit en 1964 à Älmhult en Suède,  sur les instructions du fondateur de l’enseigne,Ingvar Kamprad. Il avait demandé aux architectes de s’inspirer de l’architecture des motels, car il y avait passé de nombreuses nuits pendant ses voyages aux USA. Il a bien entendu été rénové de nombreuses fois depuis cette date, et est comme il se doit aménagé avec lemobilieret les objets de la marque.Les clients de cet hôtel peuvent ainsi essayer les meubles, et ensuite les acheter au magasin tout proche. Il a été agrandi trois fois, et rénové, et se nomme désormais IKEA Hotell. Cerise sur le gâteau, un hôtel pour les abeilles a été installé, et il est presque aussi confortable pour ces insectes que l’hôtel pour les humains!
