La société allemandeContainerwerk, a transformé des vieux conteneurs de transport maritime de 40 pieds en deux maisons pour la Design Week de Milan en 2018.  Le co-fondateur de l’entreprise, Ivan Mallinowski, a inventé un système industriel pour recouvrir les structures d’une couche de mousse isolante afin de supprimer le principal problème de ce type de maison : l’isolation et la présence de ponts thermiques. L’entreprise recycle désormais les containers et les livre à des architectes qui en font des maisons.
