Place:Paris, FranceArchitect:: Moussafir ArchitectesClient:: Société Vêtements WeillScope of work: Sunshading screens and curtains for privacy in the office of Weill office ParisStatus: Installed June 2018Size: 133.5 sqmInside Outside was asked to design sun reflective screens for the ateliers, offices and the reception the apparel brand Weill, located on the fourth and fifth floor of an old Parisian building that was recently renovated by Moussafir Architectes. Part of this renovation was to “open up” the facades around the courtyard to let sunlight and air enter the building. Some of the windows are treated with a sun reflective coating that adds a warm shade of gold to the glass.Inside Outside designed 58 translucent PVC mesh screens that hang straight down in front of the sloping facades, creating cavities behind the screens that can be used for temporary storage, while reshaping the volume of the architecture. The screens are digitally printed on both sides. The exterior sides of the screens have a print in a gradient of warm copper going to blue and finally white. This gradation of colours complement the façades and relate to the blue and sometimes cloudy sky. The colours become extra vibrant through a composition of thin vertical strips of alternating shades. The inside of the screens is printed in a solid, almost lavender blue to generate a calm and quiet atmosphere together with the light wooden floors and brass elements. All screens are positioned on a triple track system, enabling them to be stored behind one another when not in use. Each one of them has a little rectangular window to give the staff an unobstructed view outward at all times. In the reception a huge sloping window, stretching over two floors, offers the receptionist and guests abundant sunlight and a spectacular view on the Sacré Coeur. Here a screen with the same gradient print follows the architecture with its sloping façade and shifts along two motorized tracks at the top and the bottom. The sturdy mesh has been made pliable through vertical lines of perforations. A small rectangular window frames the beautiful view while a horizontal slit offers the receptionist a glimpse outward. On the fifth floor the Sacré Coeur is framed again, but now in a half circular window.Team Inside Outside: Petra Blaisse with Nika Jazaei, Peter Niessen, Nafsika Efklidou, Samantha Kroliczak.
