Milky WayPlace: Palais de Congrès, Lille, FRClient: EuralilleArchitect: OMA, Rotterdam with Francois Delhay Architects, LilleScope of work: Two stage curtains, temporary tapestry, floors, acoustic wallDate: 1994The Palais de Congrès in Lille is in fact a montage of three buildings gathered under one roof. Each of these buildings has its own particular finish: a hall with five thousand seats for pop concerts and political meetings; an immense exhibition hall for fairs; and a conference centre with auditorium for 450, 750, and 1500 spectators. Inside Outside advised on the materiality, colour use and floor and wall finishing of the interiors of all three buildings. Blaisse also furnished the central foyer which connects these disparate spaces. Each theatre curtain was designed according to the developed design criteria for creating different environments: intimate, frivolous, or spectacular. Stage curtains were designed to perform a play between opaque and transparent, light and obscured, movement and change. In our advisory role, Inside Outside also coordinated the activities of other artists within the buildings; including Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout’s furniture and mobile offices.Team Inside Outside: Petra BlaisseFilm by ©Frans Parthesius, 2012
