Drawing on Gensler’s extensive research into high-performance workplaces, our Costa Rica office is a showcase for creative and collaborative working. Based in San José’s burgeoning Escazú business district, the office takes advantage of mountain vistas with two terraces that extend the workspace environment outdoors to include meeting tables, hammocks and an organic vegetable garden. The office’s interior is branded a “Place of Making” and is appointed with a “Fab Lab” (fabrication laboratory) and resource hub centrally located in the workplace. Color choices and materials celebrate Costa Rica’s vibrant culture and reinforce the Gensler ethos of being “global yet local” in our communities. Sustainability is core to the office’s design, and the workplace employs such green strategies as ductless open ceilings, vegetable waste composting and internal living walls that improve air quality. The result is a creative, LEED® Platinum space with the highest score ever achieved in Central America.
