Deciding that its previously designed warehouse would serve better as a data center, IBM enlisted Gensler to adapt the original design to this new purpose and to coordinate an international team of specialists. The building’s first phase houses 4,300-square-feet of white space and 900 kilowatts of critical power in an IBM Standard Level-III+ configuration. Many lessons learned on a greenfield data center for IBM in Ontario, Canada, were applied to this project; special considerations included addressing cultural and professional variances between North American and Mexican customs. Gensler’s Costa Rica office lent its expertise relating to language and cultural considerations throughout the effort.
