Houston’s local media station KHOU was forced to relocate following disastrous flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. While the newscast team stayed in place to broadcast through the hurricane, rising waters ultimately forced the news station to evacuate — making the process of re-establishing KHOU’s home a deeply emotional experience. The main newsroom floor is intentionally designed to feel dynamic through cleverly placed lighting in the exposed ceiling; even fixed shots have a feeling of movement while on-air. The many vibrant and active spaces that are integrated throughout the media studio are ideal for a variety of live filming opportunities while off-screen areas are strategically designed to provide a sense of calmness and quiet respite.
