The 2022 La Prairie Art Award, an inaugural partnership between luxury Swiss skincare house La Prairie and the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW), was off to a colourful start this year, recognising the vibrant photographic work of recipient Atong Atem, an Ethiopian-born South Sudanese artist currently based in Melbourne. Atem, who won as a result of her broader photographic oeuvre, will travel to Zurich as part of her prize, and attend the Art Basel international art fair. The AGNSW will also acquire an artwork of hers for their collection, a series of hyper-stylised self-portraits titledA yellow dress, a bouquet(2022), and award Atem an international artist residency. In celebration of the award, La Prairie andVogueAustralia hosted a joint lunch at the gallery, dining beneath the artist’s acquired work. The menu was full of modern Australian fare, ranging from roast ocean trout to chicken and rhubarb trifle, while guests, including Atem herself andVogueAustralia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann, dressed brightly to match the artist’s palette.Below, look inside the 2022 La Prairie Art Award at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.Sign up to the Vogue newsletterSubscribe to become aVogueVIP and receive monthly magazine delivery, digital edition access, VIP event invitations, insider content, exclusive offers from our luxury partners and more.Subscribe today.
