While temperatures drop and winter is coming, it’s time for many schools to think of the next summer. Summer holidays are an important period to upgrade, renovate or even enlarge your educational and administrative facilities. When the new semester begins, students will be enjoying a brand-new learning environment.
VIRTUARCH, the Swiss architecture, interior design and project management company with the presence in Asia for over 20 years, successfully realized more than 120 school projects in China and many more projects in Europe and Southeast Asia. With the aim of BUILDING BETTER FUTURES, VIRTUATCH works with the schools to define the upgrading works, provide inspiring designs and, if requested, manage the implementation of the project during the short holiday break in summer.

Education is changing, and wear and tear is asking its toll on school facilities. Therefore, from time to time, teaching spaces have to be renovated, upgraded and made fit for the new school year and the next generation of students. VIRTUARCH has been in charge for many summer works of some of the best schools in China and in Southeast Asia, such as Dulwich College Shanghai, German School Pudong, the French School Yangon, U-Link School Shanghai, International School of Tianjin and many others.
VIRTUARCH, with its vast experience in educational projects and its hands-on project management approach, helps making a difference.

Less than eight weeks of decoration time make a difference in your facilities. Following the mission of the younger generation, VIRTUARCH’s track record consists of summer renovation works, bigger renovations and upgradings of existing buildings, campus expansions, or new school campus projects.

Dulwich Campus Renovation and Extension in Shanghai from 2016 to 2018 is an outstanding example of VIRTUARCH’s educational projects. During a three-year cooperation, we realized the renovation and extension of several buildings on the campus, with the peak Summer work of almost 10’000 square meter of areas renovated during one summer. VIRTUARCH redesigned key spaces such as the library, the music and drama classrooms, a black box theatre, the science and arts rooms, the canteen as well as the administration and central reception areas.

VIRTUARCH made a big difference by adding skylights to bring more natural light into the large interior spaces of the school building, creating a transparent and open teaching landscape which is designed for today’s teaching needs.
It is noteworthy that VIRTUARCH’s experience and approach allows a tight management of time, cost and risk; it is certainly one of the key competences of VIRTUARCH to realize functional, well-designed educational facilities within budget and schedule. We take pride of the fact that none of our Summer Works projects have ever been delivered late; students always were enjoying the brand-new facilities on the first day of coming back to school.
