Michał Kasperski
Taking inspiration from the radio – being a medium through which voice of an individual can reach wider audience - in my project I propose a redevelopment strategy for Curran Embankment that allows individual makers and entrepreneurs to reach wider public with their work and ideas. It is a rebuttal to the version of homogenous regeneration plan proposed by local authority, suggesting instead, low rise, high density, mixed use alternative.
Recognizing the value of investment in people and structures which already exist on site an attempt to refurbish existing brick warehouse gives practical expression to the commitment to sustainability and generosity.
conceptual studies: 3x3m makers' house without structure, defined only by items of everyday use and services, study of a radio broadcaster studio.
- masterplan -
This redevelopment in its essence is a study in density and granularity of urban fabric, what it means for 150m long warehouse to coexist with dense low-rise housing, how this contrast affects planning and what opportunities and constrains it presents?
- warehouse adaptation -
- live-work studio unit: physical model -
- work-in-progress sketches -
Key conceptual sketches that defined the approach to warehouse adaptation - how large open space could be broken down into smaller spaces and create new opportunities for blend between public and private zones while simultaneously thinking about the opportunities and constrain raw structural grid and materiality presents.
