洛杉矶住宅丨美国洛杉矶丨Mimi Shin

Mimi Shin has transformed an L.A home for a fun-loving family of five, complete with a capacious Seventies bed that’s perfect for pillow fights and movie nights.The house is located perched on a hill in Los Angeles’ Mar Vista neighbourhood, with a view down to Venice Beach and the ocean beyond.It is a light and breezy kind of a place, so anything moody or too urban would have felt out of place, but the couple are European so typical Californian design tropes were out, too.

Mimi Shin almost made their entire front two rooms into a hotel lobby vibe with multiple small seating areas rather than the formal living room and proper dining room. Their banquette off the kitchen seats 14 and the fabric was test driven with smashed avocado left to sit for 6 hours.

Mimi Shin repurposed their existing dining table which was beautifully designed by another interior designer, Tess Bethune. It seemed silly to start over when it was already a great piece. Mimi Shin added a character-driven light from Entler Studio that I could see adding to most houses. They’re so anthropomorphic and such a reflection of the designer, Jonathan Entler – quiet but provocative.

The family room space that was imagined for massive game nights with a pair of identical custom sofas that were deep and low with overflow seating on the arms and back covered in Schumacher fabric. Mimi Shin completely redesigned the fireplace with an elegant and refined travertine like marble from Stone Source, Nublado Light. The two chairs flanking the end were vintage from Morentz Gallery and recovered in a Raf Simons Kvadrat fabric. The rug was a custom mushroom-coloured Malawi rug from Armadillo. It’s Big, soft underfoot and cosy for sitting on.
