André Fu is one of the most influential figures in the world of interior design, creating interiors for some of the world's most acclaimed hotels and restaurants and setting a new standard for luxury lifestyle. He designed his Hong Kong location as informal and eclectic, but he noted that the apartment was definitely not a stylized version of his hotel interior. There are some of his favorite prototypes from previous projects, he said, and his broad tastes are reflected in his home.

What initially attracted him was the panoramic ocean view from the seven-metre-high south window. It is rare in Hong Kong, he said, for a duplex to be so elegantly divided into two floors, with the upper floor overlooking the living and dining area two stories below. With Windows open to the ceiling, both floors have views and receive natural light.

André Fu stripped the original interior of the apartment, removing the walls between the kitchen, the entrance and what is now the study. He opened up the ground floor to make it a continuous room and showed the expansive Windows framed by the sea and sky, allowing the Spaces to flow with each other and create a strong dialogue within and with the outdoors. A newly installed oak staircase leads upstairs, where three bedrooms have been reconfigured as a comfortable guest and master bedroom.

André Fu's preference for clean comfort, natural materials and soft earthy colours with a sophisticated modernity is reflected in his home. Texture also plays an equally important role in the composition, with restricted tones of white oak and marble complementing the sense of living with nature, while ivory walls and simple shutters form the backdrop to his clean, uncluttered modern aesthetic.

Elements and objects throughout the house reflect André Fu's fascination with the artisanal elements of modernism and its art deco influence, as well as his passion for Japanese art. What he likes most is the tranquility of watching the sunset over the South China Sea, which makes him feel very relaxed.
