Penthouse Tower - TiranaCiyfoersterArchitectural DesignMay - 2023
Pazari i Ri in Tirana, steeped in history, now thrives as a vibrant hub for shopping, dining, and culture. Nestled close to the city center along the Lana River, its winding streets and alleys host diverse shops and eateries, renowned for delectable cuisine. Throughout the year, it hosts concerts, exhibitions, and festivals, celebrating Albanian culture. A dynamic meeting point for locals and tourists, Pazari i Ri embodies tradition and modernity, showcasing Albania's essence. Our architectural vision prioritizes openness, contextual harmony, and contemporary design. We aim to craft a building that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, fostering community. Drawing inspiration from local villas, the Albanian landscape, and influential art, we aspire to create a unique architectural statement, respecting Albania's heritage while embracing modernity. Our goal is to forge a distinctive connection with the area and its culture.
The proposed residential building seamlessly integrates apartments, penthouses, and a bazaar, offering diverse housing options and amenities. Inclusion of retail and office spaces fosters a vibrant community, promoting social interaction and commerce. This design enhances functionality, revitalizing the local economy. Based on a versatile grid, the building comprises four distinct sections, stepping back to create appealing terraces. This approach integrates outdoor spaces, providing private and communal areas for relaxation.
The design harmonizes with its surroundings, maintaining a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing presence. Positioned on a two-story base, it respects the market area's scale, bridging historical context and modernity. Drawing inspiration from local culture and context, including stacked villas in Berat, Albania's scenic landscapes, and artistic influences like Maks Velo's house and Edi Hila's "Penthouse" painting, the Penthouse Tower pays homage to Albania's rich heritage while embracing modernity. This ensures it stands as a distinctive landmark, deeply connected to its surroundings and regional culture.
The concept of modularity for the facade is based on an 8.1-meter grid, creating a flexible framework to subdivide it into smaller modules. These modules can further break down into 2.7-meter and 5.4-meter units, offering adaptability in design. Utilizing modular units streamlines customization, allowing precise adjustment to meet design requirements. It seamlessly integrates elements like windows, panels, and architectural features for a consistent aesthetic. The 8.1-meter grid and its subdivisions establish a visual rhythm and proportion in the facade design. This modular approach also simplifies construction and installation, ensuring efficiency and potential for future modifications.
