Founded and led by the Wagner family, Caymus-Suisun Winery is nestled amongst farmland in the rolling hills of valley cooled by the breezes of the Pacific Coast, in Northern California. Suisun Valley is a designated American Viticultural Area (AVA), meaning it is recognized as a distinguished region for wine production.
The new winery includes a 5,500-square-foot / 511-square-meter glass tasting room pavilion with retractable walls and operable transom windows on all four sides that allow the building to open completely to the surroundings; It offers visitors an exploratory experience spread across two buildings and traversable vineyards with a range of indoor and outdoor seating, tasting, and retail space.
Visitors approach the tasting room by crossing a courtyard adjacent to the main arrival area, which is anchored by an open-air welcome bar crafted of locally-sourced elm and concrete. Throughout, a palette of hardwoods, ground-face concrete block, engineered timber, and poured concrete creates a humble yet refined atmosphere. Overhead, a pyramidal oculus draws daylight into the heart of the building, emphasizing dramatic changing light throughout the day. At the pavilion’s west end, visitors can partake in a full tasting. This area opens to a terrace capped by a 30-foot-long cantilevered roof that appears to hover weightlessly overhead while focusing views to nearby mountain ranges.
