When Hurricane Sandy hit New York City in 2012, Haven Plaza residents were left without electricity, heat, and water. Our moderate rehabilitation of the site was already nearing completion, so we performed emergency restorative work after the site was flooded.

After the main rehabilitation project was completed, we were hired to design and implement measures to meet the four-building, low-income housing complex’s storm resiliency needs. The scope of work includes the design of a new building to house a new boiler plant that will provide steam heat and remove the complex from the City’s steam supply. All services in this building are designed to be located above the design flood elevation. In addition to the new building, the existing electrical meter equipment is being raised, and the elevators in 1 and 2 Haven Plaza are being modified to include emergency recall service and waterproof cabling.
