Only five years after opening up shop at P.C. Hooftstraat, Amsterdam‘s continuously expanding golden mile of luxury shopping, FENDI has relocated across the street to premises more than twice the size of its previous location. Occupying no less than 598 sqm. (6,436 sq.ft.) set across three floors of two joined red brick buildings, the store features a collaborative design by FENDI‘s in-house design team in Rome and Amsterdam-based designer Gabriela Puig Soleille. Blending history with modernity, the traditional red brick façade sees reflective mirror bricks blended in, creating an undulating pattern, while also a matching metal plinth has been added. The interior design extends the latter fusion, featuring a series of sophisticated yet homey settings across the premises. The lofty ground floor, home to FENDI‘s women’s accessories and shoes, sees a backdrop of similar red and mirror bricks, paired with both ribbed textile and pequin plaster walls, and bespoke wool carpets in warm ochre and beige hues.

The shoe section’s bespoke doors, a collaborative effort of Puig Soleille and acclaimed French artist Véronique de Soultrait, flaunt an intricate rope motif and add extra visual layering. Additional furnishings and fixtures include circular walnut wood tables by Brussels-based designer Arno Declerq, serving both as displays and tables, in addition to cabinets and wall-mounted shelving. Large industrial metal beams frame the setting, adding a distinct masculine touch to the soft colour palette. An alluring staircase, eclectically captured by walnut wood and encased by shiny stainless steel, is adorned with a wall-mounted artwork by Dutch artist and interior designer Eline Baas and three mystical ceramic totems by Olivia Cognet, a French artist based in Los Angeles. On the top floor, Canaletto doors divide the expansive space in two.

The light-filled front section pairs the stairwell’s stainless steel with Patagonia marble flooring and bespoke carpets as a backdrop for a cozy seating area with a matching coffee table, a large wooden display table, and a rectangular display with ornate decorations that subtly references FENDI‘s Roman heritage. The back section presents FENDI‘s women’s apparel in a setting of walls clad in Canaletto wood and mirrored ceilings, and also features a seating arrangement, albeit bigger. The fitting rooms are furnished with fur benches in ivory and pink to match the carpet flooring. The store’s basement section is home to the menswear collections. Here, the visually dramatic staircase is more present, anchoring a setting of walls in deep green and, yet again, Patagonia marble flooring. Furnishings and fixtures include sleek wall-mounted shelving, a display cabinet and a steel tripod clothing rack with matching marble base.
