2050+ has conceived the installation design and the scenography for two exhibitions organized in collaboration with the Henraux Foundation.
The first exhibition (Collezione Henraux 1960-1970, 10 June – 17 July) was staged in the Octagonal Courtyard and in the Alessandro Garden of the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan, highlighting seven of the twenty-five Henraux sculptures in the Intesa Sanpaolo collection.
In an ideal connection between content and matter, the exhibition design by 2050+ proposed a series of lithic tables using marble offcuts from the Foundation’s production line in Querceta di Seravezza, Tuscany. Each table was constructed as an assemblage of parts, showcasing signs of the industrial process of marble extraction and production. Similar marble pieces also took the form of benches in the outer garden space, framing seven Henraux sculptures currently in the Intesa Sanpaolo, including works by Joan Miró, Jean Arp and Giò Pomodoro, among others.
In July, the marble pieces traveled back to Fondazione Henraux’s long-standing headquarters for a second edition of the exhibition (Collezione Henraux 1960–1970), which is currently on view in Querceta alongside the winning works of the 5th edition of the Henraux International Sculpture Prize.
Echoing industrial aesthetics and processes of marble refinement, the exhibition design for this latter instalment boldly engages with the space of a former sawmill. Arranged in chronological order, the marble sculptures are displayed within a grid of 2.5 X 2.5 meters painted on the ground, marking out the area occupied by each work.
In this way, the set-up establishes a conceptual bridge between the exhibition and the traditional system for storing marble blocks from the quarry, while also creating a unifying criteria for the display of the very heterogeneous pieces included in the Henraux Collection.
The grid on the ground is intertwined with three large blue areas accommodating the works of Nikita Gale, Lorenza Longhi and Himali Singh Soin, winners of the 2022 edition of the Prize.
Finally, two industrial ladders allow the visitor to enjoy the works on display, as well the various spaces of the Henraux company, from a unique zenith perspective. Collezione Henraux 1960–1970 was on view from 10 June to 17 July 2022 at Milan’s Gallerie d’Italia, an Intesa Sanpaolo museum. The Collection is currently exhibited in Querceta di Seravezza (LU), alongside the winning works of the 5th edition of the Henraux International Sculpture Prize. The double exhibition will remain on view through 15th September.
