In Rottendorf, northern Bavaria, a new building opened in September 2023 as the latest and largest branch of Germany’s leading company for hunting and outdoor supply: the Frankonia Flagship store.
In close cooperation with The Black Oak, young Berlin-based architecture and interior firm Ahochdrei developed an all-encompassing design concept from the exterior façade to the smallest details in interiors and furniture.
The ground floor hosts a spacious retail area of approx. 1400 m². Moving along a circular route, customers experiences the store like a walk through the wilderness of a forest, underlined by the use of natural, sustainable materials and innovative product presentations. Single brands are highlighted and staged, and multimedia elements integrated in the design, contributing to make the visit an unforgettable experience.
The design concept borrows several natural elements that are carried all the way throughout the project. The wooden slats of the facade bypass the windows and become branches of a large, abstract tree inside the store, forming the trunk and going all the way down to the basement as if they were roots.
The lower floor accommodates the Frankonia Academy: a fully equipped hunting school with reception, lobby, exhibition space, classrooms, kitchen, bespoke design restrooms, and one of the most modern and innovative shooting cinemas and training rooms in Europe.
The top floor hosts office spaces and a large, garden-like roof terrace.
