French contemporary label A.P.C. had been available in Sydney for quite some time, but now, following the inauguration of a standalone Melbourne boutique in 2014, it has raised its profile with a brand new outpost. Situated at The Galeries, a shopping centre in the inner city’s Town Hall area, the boutique rubs shoulders with the outposts of peers from the industry, such as GANNI, Incu and Nudie Jeans. The interior design, created by Paris-based architect and longtime collaborator Laurent Deroo, is an understated affair. The shop’s two large windows are marked by tiered shelving units of light timber and anchored by floor-to-ceiling poles, and the entrance sees robust doors in matching material. Inside the 62 sqm. (667 sq.ft.) corner unit, the setting is very much an extrapolation of what can be seen from afar. Floor-to-ceiling poles are positioned alongside the perimeters of the store just like scaffolding, creating display areas for clothing, and as said, shelving for bags, accessories and shoes, while the backside incorporates a counter, cabinets, and concealed behind timber panels, storage and a fitting room. Taking literally centre stage is unit displaying apparel. For the most part, the aforementioned sections stand on legs which, combined with the mirror-clad side wall, optically enlarge the space. The new A.P.C. store carries both the men’s and women’s collections.
