In the center of Milan, on the connecting street between the bastions of Porta Ticinese and the minor Roman basilica, within the Sant'Ambrogio district of the same name, Fabio Fantolino signs the Adec project, a dental office in which the theme of having care is embodied not only in medical practice but also in the aesthetic choices underlying the project.
The strength of the project is the play of material and color contrasts and the reflections they create. By juxtaposing the naturalness and warmth of wood with metallic materials such as steel, the concept of a formal and detached practice is overcome, making it welcoming, fresh and contemporary.
The centrality of the design is taken by the reception desk, a steel block interrupted by wooden inserts that break up its volume by providing an opening and support for the patient. Minimal brick-colored pendants descend on the countertop, breaking with the rest of the surrounding tones.
Behind the counter, a row of mustard-colored fabric armchairs integrated with a stone bench is embraced by wood paneling and semi-hidden by the colorful perforated sheet metal partition that demarcates the waiting area and frames the reception desk.
The neutral tone stoneware floor unifies the various areas and accompanies in the gradual color and perceptual change that takes place in the medical and operational space, where wood is abandoned in favor of the use of soothing colors such as teal and the grafting of steel elements.
