The Ho·ton Lloyd Amsterdam 酒店丨荷兰阿姆斯特丹丨AIME Studios

Amsterdam‘s landmark Lloyd Hotel, once a beacon of Dutch Design and a quirky Dutch take on modern hospitality, has undergone a dramatic transformation. Now called The Hoxton Lloyd Amsterdam, the early 20th-century property built by architect Evert Breman is part of the fast-expanding London-based hotel chain which opened its first outpost in the Dutch capital in 2015. The premises may have lost carefully preserved austerity and whimsical interventions which made up the former Lloyd Hotel, but gained a playful allure and urban vibrancy instead. The interior design, created by AIME Studios, the design entity of lifestyle hospitality company and owner Ennismore, and local interior design studio Nicemakers, pairs the building’s original Art Déco elements with both a warm colour palette and subdued hues.

Mind you, the latter reference Koninklijke Nederlandse Lloyd, the building’s original occupant, geometric elements and contemporary furnishings. The hotel has seen a few redevelopments as well, notably the new floor on top of the lively Breman Brasserie, an all-day restaurant on the ground floor, which resulted in additional guest rooms. Mind you, The Hoxton Lloyd Amsterdam now features 136 guest rooms in seven categories, including studios for families or groups. Additionally, there are so-called concept rooms for those who wish to add a little something to their stay in town—the Tower Room on the top floor, the Tune Room which is fitted out with a jazzy grand piano, and last but not least, the Gather Room which comes with an XXXXL bed and even a separate dining room.

Needless to say, The Hoxton Lloyd Amsterdam comes with a series of facilities that’ll infuse your stay with additional fun that even the locals can’t resist. The aforementioned brasserie, indeed, it’s named after the building’s architect, serves turn-of-the-century European and South American cuisine in a warm, welcoming setting. Stylish cocktail bar Barbue is a collaboration with Renato ‘Tato’ Giovannoni, a hailed bartender and founder of the Florería Atlántico bar in Buenos Aires, and although situated in a somewhat remote corner of the property, it’s a seamless extension of the restaurant. The setting is anchore by a large bar with stools and surrounded by colourful sofas and marble top tables. Adding a contemporary visual layer to the hotel interiors is a collection of art by both established and emerging talent curated Amsterdam-based Bisou Gallery.

And that’s not all. The so-called Hox Gallery, a collaborative effort with nearby art and lifestyle hub Loods6, has resulted in an outdoor space which allows graffiti artists to create murals. Similar to all other Hoxton properties, The Hoxton Lloyd Amsterdam is well-rooted in local culture which is reflected on more than one level, such as specific foods and delicacies by local purveyors and a monthly running session with streetwear fashion label Patta. In town for work? The Hoxton Lloyd Amsterdam readily accommodates guests with two hybrid meeting and event spaces on the ground floor—the Dining Room and the Drawing Room. Both feature a homey setting with timber panelling and classic light fixtures, and are suitable for a variety of meetings or events.
