For this iconic penthouse apartment, EDG was commissioned to develop a custom-designed art wall using our proprietary 3D printing technology to transform a core element into the defining design feature in the room.

Sitting prominently in the full-floor apartment, the wall is situated along the main entry, simultaneously framing views and forming the defining element for the residents and guests as they disembark from the private elevator.

Working from a client request for a truly unique design, EDG developed the striking fluted pattern with sculpted ribs which undulate organically across the four core faces while providing tight, seamless corners and edges at the top and bottom of the 13-foot tall expanse. Using a proprietary parametric 3D design process, EDG set up the specific geometry, working with the client to capture the perfect form for each face of the column. The custom panels were fine-tuned for in-house fabrication and manufacture, from printing to shipping to the final installation. We also worked exclusively with one of Manhattan's finest specialty painters to achieve the perfect jointless, metallic gold finish.

Concept to final site finishing took less than three months to complete and had many unique challenges — from working at a complicated and secure site to multiple fabrication locations — all while navigating a very exacting client brief. The final product is a singular piece of art unlike anything available in the global market. The wall is a fitting centerpiece that unifies the spatial layout and directly ties together much of the apartment's design elements. It is undeniably an apt competitor to the commanding view.
